Buncombe County Fire Department Trench Refresher Training

Over a three-day period in May, Hedrick Industries had the opportunity to partner with the Buncombe County Fire Department in providing space for important training sessions. Approximately 75 Fire Fighters gathered at a Hedrick property adjacent to North Buncombe Quarry in Weaverville, North Carolina for a “trench refresher course”. The purpose of the course was to refresh Fire Fighters on procedures associated with collapsed trenches (most commonly, during installation of utility lines). Hedrick Industries is always proud to be a part of these important programs that help keep our communities and our first responders safe.

Hedrick and Hands On!

Hedrick Industries is proud to partner with the Hendersonville Hands On! Children’s Museum. The Museum recently added a new exhibit with a Fossil Dig and Dinosaur Safari which can be seen from the museum’s front entrance. With a goal of inspiring children to attain an interest in the geological sciences, the Fossil Dig includes some fun costumes like hard hats and vests, so the kids can look the part and some archeological tools for digging up fossils and excitement.

Hands On! Children’s Museum has educated and supplied a safe and fun environment for over 300,000 children in the Western NC community.  Visitors and children are able to learn about science while enjoying fun, hands-on STEM exhibits.

NCHART Training at Aquadale Quarry

On May 8-10 Aquadale Quarry had the unique opportunity to host the North Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (NCHART) for their yearly intensive training exercise. NCHART used 4 areas of our quarry for various training scenarios. Due to the unique location of our quarry they were able to simulate Swift water / flood rescue, wilderness, mountain, and high angle rescue. The NCHART program includes two different aircraft based on mission needs. The NC Army National Guard provides the UH-60 Blackhawk and UH-72 Lakota helicopters. In the photo above the UH-60 Blackhawk is simulating a mountain rescue. One of Hedrick’s own employees at Aquadale Bill Ingle is being lifted into the air as part of the training. NCHART is under the direction of the NC Emergency Management and deploys in times of crises. The HART team was used multiple times last year during Hurricane Florence and mountain rescues in the Linville Gorge Area.
