For several years Hedrick’s Grove Stone Quarry has been the site for the annual Asheville Spartan Race. The Spartan Race features three different obstacle races, a sprint, an ultra and new this year, a trail run. Green River Quarry recently supplied the Town of Tryon on a stream restoration. The project was at Harmon Field along the North Pacolet River. There will be signage along the trail educating people about the benefits of projects like these.
The project is bounded by the boulders set along the paved path and the North Pacolet River. Part of the restoration of the North Pacolet River at Harmon Field include establishment of native vegetation along the river in most areas of the park. This project was made possible through grant funding and donations provided by the North Carolina Division of Environmental Quality-Water Resources Development Grant Program, The Town of Tryon, Quible & Associates, P.C. and Material Sales Company, Inc.
