Black Mountain News Tells Story of Partnership

Tis the season to be grateful. For Hedrick Industries and neighbor, the Black Mountain Home for Children, thankful only begins to describe the deep appreciation and respect we have for one another. With Thanksgiving behind us, Hedrick Industries recognizes that our partnership is not something celebrated just once a year.

As the saying goes, “it takes a village” to raise a child. That is exactly the model these two neighbors exemplify. While the bottom line is to provide care for children in Buncombe County, our partnership with the Children’s Home has given back in ways one would never predict.
Thanks to Fred McCormick for writing a great story about our partnership in the Black Mountain News. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, so without further ado:

Rock the Quarry Raises $45,000 For Local Organizations

There are a lot of things we love about Rock the Quarry: the great views of the Swannanoa River Valley that we get to share with participants, the enthusiasm of the children running the Kids’ Fun Run, the handmade “pet rock” awards, the friendly-competitive spirit, the dedicated sponsors and the gracious volunteers that make it all happen. The list goes on.

Our FAVORITE thing about Rock the Quarry is the contribution it brings to help two local beneficiaries: the Black Mountain Home for Children and Colburn Earth Science Museum. Thanks to our sponsors and record-breaking participation this year, we raised $45,000. We handed the Black Mountain Home for Children a check for $30,000, which will go towards their Everyday Fund to pay for food, water, electricity bills, and their overall ability to care for homeless and neglected children in Western North Carolina. Grove Stone & Sand is also a longtime partner to the Colburn Earth Science Museum, who received $15,000 for their capital campaign. As the museum is moving locations and transitioning into the Asheville Museum of Science, we are thrilled to support the work they do and the efforts made to provide educational programming to youth and adults.

We are planning an even more successful Rock the Quarry for 2016. Put Saturday, September 17th, 2016 on your calendar and help us continue to grow, so we can continue to give back to our community.

Happy running!

Grove Stone & Sand Company had 65 runners come out for their last training run around the quarry, held on Wednesday, August 5th! With the Spartan run only two weeks away, we’re having another training run this Saturday, August 15th at 9 a.m. Come to the back entrance at Grove Stone, which is at the end of Lake Eden Road, past Owen High School and Camp Rockmont. Take a right when it dead ends and then a left onto the gravel road. Grove Stone will be open from 9-11, so come enjoy a run or walk with us! We’re looking forward to another big group!

Grove Stone & Sand Co. is having another training run next Wednesday, August 5th at 5:45pm at the quarry. Whether you are training for the Reebok Spartan Race coming up on August 29th or Rock the Quarry 5K on September 19th OR BOTH, come tear up the trails and have fun with us!

We’ll meet between 5:15 – 5:45pm and will start the group run at 5:45pm sharp. This is a great opportunity to get familiar with the terrain and property. Feel free to run at your own pace and we’ll have water available at the end of the run.

Directions: Take Lake Eden Road past Owen High School and Camp Rockmont until it dead-ends. The back gate to Grove Stone & Sand Co. will be on the right. Posted signs will point you in the right direction. Turn left on the gravel road once you pass thru the gate and you’ll run right into the starting line. Park on the side of the gravel road.

***Make sure you come around to the back gate at Grove Stone & Sand Co. at the end of Lake Eden Road, the front gate will be locked.***
