“Rock the Quarry” Training Run!
Posted on July 17th, 2015
18 awesome runners came out last week for Rock the Quarry 5K Trail Challenge’s training run. With RTQ right around the corner, on September 19ththis year, enthusiasm was high. The practice run started at 5:45pm at Grove Stone & Sand Co. Due to construction in the quarry’s pit, the group ran around the quarry, 4 miles on the gravel haul road to the top of the overlook (see the view pictured below!). Thank you to the Black Mountain Running Co. Posse and other high-spirited runners who joined in on the fun! Stay tuned for future training run dates between now and race day!

Grove Stone & Sand Company joined many other WNC businesses last Friday, June 5th in the Asheville Chamber 5K. The event is an annual, team-based challenge that brings friendly competition together with community Health & Wellness awareness. Over a thousand runners and walkers participated. From our company, Hank Gaston, Ashley Taylor, Joe Lordi and Nathaniel Shelton came sporting their “ROCK” shirts, ready to, well, rock!
Whether their challenge was to beat a personal record, beat a co-worker, or to make it across the finish line, our team enjoyed the physical aspect of the event. They reported that signing up was motivation to be active and that within the first few training runs they felt healthier. Company participation was not limited to runners. Grove Stone also had rockin’ volunteers set up a table to promote Grove Stone & Sand’s own 5K coming up September 19th, Rock the Quarry 5K Trail Challenge & Fun Run. Volunteers for the event included Pepe Holliday and his daughter, Dixie Holliday, Ralph Shelton, Eric Young, and Doc Hensley. Overall, the Asheville Chamber 5K was a great way to get out of the office and build camaraderie with one another and with the community we work in. Thanks, Asheville Chamber!
